ABOUT THIS SERIES
A photographic paper that has been exposed to an exaggerated number of negatives no longer retains the information of the individual pictures, so that the excessive amount of information blackens the photo-sensitive surface, making the images retinally invisible.
Each Meditation is a metaphors for our overexposure to the images of the world and their constant, bulimic consumption. What is left nowadays to be photographed, still untouched by the presence of an already existing image?
This image of all the images reflects the observer in the moment he stands in front of it. The work is backlit, producing light in the opposite direction from the one of observation, towards the wall and behind the black mirror: it is the aura to reveal the presence of the viewer.
Meditation is a blind gaze and a chance to see, a light negated and revealed, the absence from which a presence is born. These abstract, atemporal, aspatial, achromatic black-mirrored photographs are meditations on Photography, the Subject and Reality at the same time. The image emerges from the ashes of the visible, from the end of any possible photographic representation: the meaning of being resides in the gaze and the image where it appears.
Fotografie nere a specchio retro-illuminanti, strutture acromatiche astratte, a-temporali, a-spaziali, auto-referenziali: meditazioni sulla Fotografia, il Soggetto e la Realtà.
Il nero è il risultato dell’assorbimento totale della luce visibile, metafora dell’esposizione a tutte le immagini del Mondo. Questo eccesso d’informazioni ha annerito la superficie fotosensibile, rendendo la Realtà retinicamente invisibile, sedimentata in un nero totale. L’immagine di tutte le immagini riflette chi l’osserva, rendolo visibile nel momento in cui si pone al suo cospetto. L’opera è retro-illuminante e produce luce nella direzione opposta a quella di chi osserva, verso la parete, dietro al nero specchiante: l’aura che emana rivela il volto di chi guarda.
Ogni Meditazione è uno sguardo cieco e allo stesso tempo una chance per poter vedere, una luce negata e rivelata, l’assenza da cui far nascere una presenza: è nello sguardo il senso dell’essere. L’immagine emerge dalle ceneri del visibile, dalla fine d’ogni possibile rappresentazione fotografica. Pongo l’osservatore davanti a sé stesso, affinché l’immagine, guardata, lo ri-guardi.
