Chance

In 2008, the Region Arts Council in Piedmont, Italy invited a group of artists to produce “art in nature.” Wolf responded with Chance, a digital print on vinyl submerged into the Stura River.
Working with light and the environment, Wolf juxtaposed the naturally flowing water of the river with a still image of a rim of water. For Wolf, the ever-flowing water stood as a metaphor for the “river of time” while the still image gave onlookers the ‘chance’ to pause and reflect upon the frozen image in the moment.
In so doing, Wolf merged the movement of time with the idleness of time. Chance remained on-site for one month.

Chance è un lavoro concepito appositamente per le acque del fiume Stura. Esso esplora la dimensione del tempo e della luce attraverso la fotografia e l’acqua. L’idea è di aggiungere un goccia di luce al fiume del tempo.

Il fiume è metafora dell’infinito scorrere del tempo, all’interno del quale l’istante si materializza in una immagine fotografica. I cerchi d’acqua che si propagano in onde concentriche sono resi eterni e sospesi dalla grande immagine bidimensionale che giace nel fiume.

Tempo eternizzato e tempo continuo coesistono e interagiscono simultaneamente. Il flusso e l’arresto sono i poli all’interno dei quali vibra e si compie l’esperienza umana, resa possibile dalla luce e dall’acqua: gli elementi generatori della Vita.
L’utopia, la possibilità e l’esperienza sono possibili, ed anche visibili, nelle acque del Fiume del Tempo.
